Wan Kaige's Cabinet is the current Executive Yuan of China that was formed on January 22, 2022. The cabinet was formed in the aftermath of the 2022 Chinese legislative election which resulted in the Kuomintang regaining control of the Legislative Yuan from the previous coalition government of Lin Renjian from January to October 2021. The cabinet succeeded the caretaker government of Yan Xiuren and is a coalition between the KMT, the Democratic Party of Socialists, and the New Party of China. Officially designated the "Pan-Blue Coalition", the coalition was formed due to common adherence towards social conservative policies and principles.
Cabinet formation
Wan Kaige was formally sworn in as Premier on January 22 following the 2022 legislative election. Wan Kaige, former Secretary-General of the KMT, was approved by most of the Legislative Yuan and formed a coalition government between the Kuomintang, the Democratic Party of Socialists and New Party over all three parties shared adherence towards social conservatism. Dispute over the social liberal policies of the Democratic Progressive Party during Reijin's government in 2021 lead to its breakdown and ultimately paved the way for the 2022 election. This coalition would be named the Pan-Blue Coalition while the DPP and Green Party formed their own opposition alliance, the Pan-Green Alliance, in response. Nearly half of the ministers from the previous cabinet, mostly DPS-aligned ministers, carried over to the new government.
History
The new government was inaugurated at a challenging time in China's foreign relations, due to the Manchurian crisis that began in early January over the alleged Chinese troop deployment near the Manchurian border. Premier Wan Kaige and his Foreign Minister, Dai Lin, immediately began pursuing diplomacy with the Western powers involved in Manchuria. They met with Sierran Prime Minister Susan Kwon, Superian President Isaac Dillon, and their countries' respective foreign secretaries, Maggie Chan and Autumn Hurst, just three days after being sworn in. The Chinese Premier later said that the meeting saw no progress on the main issues that China had with Manchuria and the CAS military presence there, but that further negotiations would follow. Wan Kaige gave them a draft proposal from China about a potential treaty to resolve the situation in East Asia.
