The Vice Premier of the Republic of China (Chinese: 行政院副院長, lit. 'Vice President of the Executive Yuan') is the deputy of the head of government, the Premier of the Republic of China, and is appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Premier. The Vice Premier is a high-ranking executive assistant to the head of government and carries out his duties if he is incapacitated, as well as coordinating government policy in specific spheres. The current Vice Premier is Li Zhen, who was approved by the Legislative Yuan after being nominated by President Zhao Meijin in February 2021.
During the People's Republic of China there were multiple Vice Premiers in the State Council (predecessor to the Executive Yuan), each managing a specific portfolio related to an issue. The First Vice Premier was the most senior and influential among them, and was the first deputy to the Premier of the State Council, the head of the Central People's Government. The Republic of China since 2000 has abandoned the practice of having multiple vice premiers, with only one Vice Premier being appointed. Therefore the PRC First Vice Premier is considered to be the preceding office to the modern ROC Vice Premier.
The current Vice Premier is Jiang Sen of the Democratic Party of Socialists, since January 22, 2022, selected by the Legislative Yuan and appointed by President Zhao Meijin.
