Dormea (Libertan English: /ˌdɒrˈmeɪɒ/; Latin: [doːrmɛa]), officially the Most Serene Vicinity of Dormea is a neighborhood situated in the southeast of Protopolis, Liberta. It is bounded by three Protopolan neighborhoods, Rega to the north, Nobea and Jurea to the west, and Mari to the south. It is also bounded by three neighborhoods to the east, Vesperum in Oriens, and by Garana and Partona in Romea. It is the most populous neighborhood in Protopolis, and the second largest by area, behind Jurea. Dormea is a part of and the fifth neighborhood in the oldest borough, Protopolis. It retains the fifth seat in the Senate.
The name Dormea is likely derived from dormītōrium, Latin for "dormitory." Whilst the origin for this name remains unclear, several theories have been put forth. The two most widely supported theories suggest that the name results from either a lack of trade in the area, being a mostly residential neighborhood, or from its historic red light district active during the Naevan period. Most historians and archaeologists estimate Dormea was founded around 36 BC, being part of the island during Libertas earliest history. Until the Aurelian era, most of Dormea was comparatively impoverished to the rest of Protopolis. As the city began to expand however, the proximity to government buildings and entertainment complexes, such as amphitheaters, gentrified Dormea. It has since remained as an important residential area for government officials, being far more densely populated than most of Protopolis. Since the start of the 20th century, Dormea, just like the rest of Protopolis, has undergone a multitude of restoration and structural reinforcement infrastructure projects.
