The 42nd Superian federal election is scheduled to take place on March 20, 2026 to elect new members to the House of Delegates of Superior to the 42nd Parliament of Superior. The date of the election is determined by the Federal Elections Act of 2022 which requires all federal elections to take place between March and October once every four years. If held on its listed date, than the 42nd election will be the most recent election to have taken place after the standard four year legislative session with the most recent being in 2019.

Since the incumbent administration is a minority government, the federal election can be held earlier per either the request of the president with the consent of parliament or via a vote of no confidence being triggered by the House of Delegates, causing a snap election to take place via an act of parliament. The previous two elections have been held due to votes of no confidence triggered by parliament.

Background

The 2022 Superian federal election, held on January 3 of that year, resulted in the United Conservative Party, lead by Isaac Dillon, winning the largest plurality of seats in the House of Delegates and resulting in the party returning to power for the first time since 2011. Dillon would be the first United Conservative and conservative party leader to have won the presidency and form a government for the first time since Alexander Harper in 2011. The Conservative Coalition of Superior, formed by Dillon in 2018, would form a government for the first time and invited the Libertarian Party to join after they re-entered parliament for the first time since 2019.

The Progressive Bloc of Superior suffered its worst defeat since its formation in 2015 with all member parties suffering major electoral losses. The Liberal Democrats suffered the loss of over 30 seats and its worst performance since 2003 while the Green Party also suffered its worst performance in almost two decades, suffering a near-complete electoral collapse losing ten seats and reduced to three seats while the Farmer Labor Party lost only two seats, the least severe losses in terms of number of seats and lost votes in comparison to the other two.

In accordance with the Legislative Districting Act of 1929, the federal government is mandated to redraw all electoral districts to the House of Delegates after every census is held once every ten years. The 2022 federal election would be the second federal election to have been held with the new districts drawn after 2020. The current district boundaries for all 263 electoral districts were drawn based off of the 2019 census.

The formation of the first conservative government since 2011 garnered major media attention along with speculation and fears of what policies the Dillon Administration would pass. Many have feared the reversal of major Granholm-era reforms inspite of Dillon's promises not to do so, however many have pointed to the liberal majority on the High Court after Roberto Jimenez was appointed to the court in late 2021 before the election took place as one of the last major actions Granholm took before stepping down from office.
