Politics of Superior Political parties in Superior Elections in Superior |
The Conservative Party of Superior (German: Konservative Partei Superiors) was a center-right political party in the Kingdom of Superior that was the main conservative political party in Superior for most of its history. Founded in 1868, it was one of the earliest political parties in Superior's history and was one of the two major parties in Superior alongside the Liberal Democratic Party.
Founded in 1868 during the War of Contingency, the Conservative Party was founded in response to the formation of the National Republican Party of Superior, which called for the abolition of Superior's monarchy and the creation of an American-style federal republic. The party, supportive of the monarchy, was formed and would run in the 1869 Superian federal election coming in a close third place two seats behind the National Republicans. Throughout the 19th century, the Conservative Party would emerge as a staunch defender of the monarchy and would represent the conservative movement. The early Conservative Party was supportive of social conservatism, staunchly represented the Lutheran population, the monarchy and a rural electorate with a notable presence among industrial workers during the early 20th century.
Party founder George Miller served as the 3rd President of Superior from 1881 to 1893 and the party would dominate politics in the 1910s and 20s before being defeated in the 1938 Superian federal election in an upset by the Farmer Labor Party. During the Great War, the party partook in the National Unity Government of Floyd B. Olson, but ran against the party after the war emerging victorious with John Claremont's victory in 1949. Under John Abbott, the party went under a major ideological shift towards liberal conservatism, a shift intensified by Alexander Ludendorff. This shift angered many traditional members of the party and lead to its slow decline and infighting that tore the part apart and saw numerous other parties form, most notably the United Popular Front of Superior in 1977.
The Conservative Party would win its last victory in the 1985 Superian federal election, but its decline didn't stop and the moderate approach angered many in the conservative movement and split the movement between the now moderate Conservative Party and the national conservative United Popular Front. During the 1990s, the Conservative Party lost numerous seats to the Popular Front and was reduced to a third party in the 1999 Superian federal election. By the year 2000, negotiations began between leaders of the Popular Front and Conservative Party for a merge of the two parties which was finalized on November 2, 2002, with the creation of the United Conservative Party of Superior.
