The Hachinosu class of guided missile destroyer, also known as the Drone Carrier class, is the predominant deployment platform for the Tonbo Drone in the East Asian Federation armed forces. The class is nearly identical to the Atago class guided missile destroyer, with its reduced armament consisting of two drone launchers and several SAM batteries.
The Hachinosu class' design is a variant of the Allied States' Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. The ships of the class are built in a joint partnership between Hyasoda Military Industries and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Design
The Hachinosu class, like the Atago it is based on, is fundamentally a scaled up version of Kongō class destroyers. Unlike the Atago, there is very little crew space, as all available space is devoted to drone storage.
It utilizes an upgraded version of the Aegis integrated naval combat system, in an anti-air and anti-missile capacity, complementing the other missile destroyers in the fleet. In addition, the Hachinosu class has the ability to launch drones for air-to-air combat in limited situations.
Ships in the Class
There are currently seven Hachinosu-class carriers, each named after a region of the federation:
