The Merethic Era or Mythic Era (ME) succeeded the timeless chaos of the Dawn Era. Unlike later eras, the Merethic is counted backwards from the First Era that followed it.
Timeline
Early Merethic
- Convention: Ada-mantia is laid down on the Isle of Balfiera, setting in place a concrete reality. This event is traditionally dated to ME 2500, or at the end of the Dawn Era.
- The Ehlnofey coalesce into defined forms, from which the various mortal races (with the exception of the Argonians) are descended.
- A group of Aldmer, led by Torinaan the Foresailor, arrive in the Summerset Isles. Over time, they will become the Altmer.
- The ancestors of the Dwemer settle in Vvardenfell.
- The earliest Kothringi artifacts are dated to this time.
Middle Merethic
- Veloth leads the faithful to Resdayn; they become known as the Chimer.
- The followers of Trinimac/Malacath migrate to Wrothgar and become the Orsimer.
- The elves living in Skyrim become known as the Falmer, or "Snow Elves".
Late Merethic
- c. ME 1000 — Earliest known Nedic settlements in High Rock, Hammerfell, and Cyrodiil
- c. ME 900 — Atmoran raiders begin crossing the Sea of Ghosts.
- c. ME 500
- c. ME 400 — The ancient Nords build primitive settlements at the mouth of the Karth River, in the vicinity of modern Solitude.
- c. ME 200 — The Dragon Cult grows powerful enough to usurp the secular government in Skyrim.
- c. ME 100
- The Dragon War breaks out after Nords rebel against the Dragon Cult.
- The dragon Kaalgrontiid conquers Elsweyr, before being imprisoned in the Halls of Colossus by Khunzar-ri and his companions.
- Start of large-scale interbreeding between elves and men in High Rock
