The Victorian Report is a news satire national newspaper of the United States of JBR and one of the largest circulated works in the country. It prints its paper every Sunday along with every Wednesday and Friday. Unlike the Angeles Times, (and despite the lie in the motto) the newspaper preserves any bias made by its reporters to go along the freedom of speech, thought, and press. It is widely known for its "troll-like" style of writing and offensiveness. Shipped by the United States of JBR Postal Service, price begins at 75 cents and a entire year of subscription may be $35 or so—depending on the area of the resident. Each Victorian Report for each county varies as there are "editions" of the Victorian Report. The Victorian Report is known for some of its controversial articles including one comic that had a drawing of the prophet, Starammad of the Zitacruso Church which infuriated many believers and clergy. The Victorian Report is run by the Double Star Company, a small yet quickly developing corporation.
Regular features
The Victorian Report has several features that recur in all or nearly all of its issues:
- "FAILPic", an illustration or comic on the issue's main topic
- Unrealistic horoscopes
- Unusual advertisements
- "Ye Olde Times", a section entirely devoted to history; usually mixed with fictional and realistic elements
- "Paparazzi Patrol", reviews and satirical stories and news about celebrities of JBR and elsewhere
- "Meerkat Ballot", a political section along with fake biographical entries on selected politicians
- "Your Town Here", varies in every county; often contains news specific to that county
- "The Vox Populi of Teh Peoplez", an opinion and letters to the editor section; most of these "people" are actually staff members. Three writers appear frequently: Martha, Roofus, and Dill.
- "Super Size Yourself", reviews about food and drink
- "Around the World in 8 Minutes", news and stories about the world and travel
- "Hike!", sports section
Role
The Victorian Report has been one of the top newspapers read in the United States of JBR and often rivals to that of the Angeles Times. The Victorian Report was view with suspicion during the Anarchic Disorder Month however, as its questionable bias and "liberal view" often caused conservatives to backlash against the Double Star Company. One group of conservatives were offended by a particular article found on the main page of the newspaper and decided to sue Double Star. The case was taken to the United States of JBR Seventh Circuit Court where the court ruled in favor of Double Star noting that freedom of speech in the United States of JBR includes offensive speech.
The Victorian Report has also been accused of libel, one recent one poking fun at Vice President Hayden Painter and publishing a 20-page report about a fake biography of his life. Another one was also controversial which proposed for a "JBRican's Next Top Politician" which had several Photoshopped and iffy pictures of female politicians. The issue did not include Vice Queen Maylene Pikachurin, who was made Vice Queen just two days before. Her husband commented,
“ | "Although I would probably wish they would not, they certainly shouldn't be censored...even...if I may have the urges to rip the paper in half if such ever happened." | ” |
--Lance Pikachurin on regards of freedom of speech and embarrassment.
Many has criticized the Victorian Report for causing nothing more than trouble and even several readers have expressed concern. The Victorian Report's top journalists were also nearly killed by an AIL terrorist on March 5, 2011 in a shoot-off at the headquarters. The terrorist organization called the Victorian Report, "evil, offensive, and corrupted".
On response, the Victorian Report has consistently said that they were the voice of JBR and the editor-in-chief Micheal Renos also said "I publish what I think is funny and appealing to my readers." Some likened the Victorian Report as the Encyclopedia Dramatica on print although one critic noted "...the Victorian Report is not as funny as the website, Encyclopedia Dramatica...clearly, the Victorian Report actually slams their work into your faces every Sunday while the website can only be accessed by computer or phone."
