Writer Awards

Ney Ney Award for Best Author

This award is for best author on the wiki in 2023.

Nominations

  • Fizzyflapjack has made many excellent contributions this year, most especially in Sanctuary Stars and in various one-off projects, and that's in addition to also running the site itself which facilitates writing for all of us. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Centrist16 is one of the most important people in this wiki, and he continues to help us out. We wouldn't be here without them. Solaris2019 (talk) 23:43, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Discussion

  • For his contributions in the past year alone, namely, shepherding our community to its new home like a Conworldian Moses, not to mention his habit of being extremely approachable, transparent, and supportive on a wide range of issues, both technical and creative, and let alone his masterful authorship on such projects as Sanctuary Stars, I must recommend Fizzyflapjack for Best Author without question. Dawnstar (talk) 05:37, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Voting

Best New Contributor

This award is for the best new contributor who joined the wiki and/or Discord server in 2023.

Nominations

  • Hitcho11 has added a plethora of new content to the wiki since joining the community in early 2023, and each of his articles, including stubs, have a unique depth of description and lore. He also has the distinct honor of creating the largest non-map game page on the wiki as of this writing (Mejico), a page which was created in 2023. Andy Irons (talk) 21:37, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Soilaf joined this year and has contributed a number of creative, well-written pages which step outside the bounds of most other constructed worlds, especially the Tessian Hegemony and other pages in An Aerlon's Day. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Best Supporting Writer

This award is for best supporting writer on the wiki in 2023.

Nominations

  • Dawnstar has been quietly chipping away at the monumental task of categorizing other people's articles, reading them, and editing them in the classical sense in addition to fleshing out his own projects this year. He is an amicable and collegial person who is never anything other than pleasant to his fellow Conworlders. Conworlds today is a better site because of his work in 2023! Fizzyflapjack (talk) 20:20, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Screwhorn has always been there to help us out with our mistakes and ideas. Even though his ideas haven't been fully realized, I will always appreciate his help.Solaris2019 (talk) 23:43, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Andy Irons - Andy is a wonderfully supportive presence on the wiki, and someone who is always willing to collaborate or help others flesh out ideas. T0oxi22 (talk)

Discussion

  • I second the nomination of Dawnstar. He's been a massive help toward the correct categorization of the universe of Realstrange AU. Wisky (talk) 20:35, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Project Awards

Yanus Award for Best World

This award is for the best conworld on the wiki in 2023.

Nominations

  • The Objective: Legend of Urlum the Evil by Litia von Lucerna. This is such a difficult year to nominate for the Yanus Award. There have been so many new contributors to Conworlds in 2023 who have brought their passion projects along with them. The breadth and depth is beyond anything I have seen since my first days on Conworlds more than a decade ago now. That being said, it's hard for me to not nominate a personal favourite. Litia's world has deep, rich lore and a fantastical, expansive setting. There are years worth of development that have been built on with TOLOUTE that have accumulated into a wonderful whole. I think it's difficult for anyone who uses the Discord to not recognize its distinct literary and visual style at this point, an achievement unto itself. I am so impressed by what Litia has brought to the table in 2023 and so excited to watch TOLOUTE grow and thrive on Conworlds for (hopefully) years to come! Fizzyflapjack (talk) 20:31, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
  • The Pirates of Atlas by Centrist16. While not a traditional conworld, at least in the sense of what we have come to consider a conworld, The Pirates of Atlas has excelled in providing a clearly well-developed world with interesting characters and a rich story. Andy Irons (talk) 22:20, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Discussion

  • I second the nomination of The Objective: The Legend of Urlum the Evil by Litia von Lucerna. It's honestly one of the most intricate and well-developed science-fiction timelines on the Constructed Worlds Wiki and is honestly really fun to read and see it grow and develop as time goes on, not to mention it has excellently detailed graphics and a unique art style. Also, I have to owe him a favor for TO:LOUTE and other similar works of his serving as a big inspiration for my own An Aerlon's Day constructed world. Thank you so much and outstanding work, Litia! Soilaf (talk) 21:53, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • As someone who was on the Hypothetical Hurricanes Wiki with Litia and had many conversations with him about his work as he made it, I have been a first hand witness to the sheer dedication and commitment that preceded The Objective: Legend of Urlum the Evil. Litia has poured untold hours of work and worldbuilding into this timeline and it really shows in all of the intricacies it has. TO:LOUTE is one of the most imaginative and developed single person timelines I've read on this site, which is especially impressive considering how new it is. TO:LOUTE and its predecessors (especially Urlum the Usurper) has been a huge inspiration for Knowledge as the Weapon, as well as a number of other timelines including Soliaf's An Aerlon's Day (see above). All in all, TO:LOUTE is a detailed and inspiring timeline that 100% deserves this award. Amazing job on all of your work, Litia! Poxy4 (talk) 13:44, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

Best New Project

This award is for the best new project created on the wiki in 2023.

Nominations

  • An Aerlon's Day by Soilaf. A science fiction and "space opera" constructed world, which is highly creative and interesting. This project has started only this year, but has made its mark with some excellent pages and artwork. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Land of the Two Suns by Roman Bread. I remember really being intrigued by this project when Roman Bread first started working on it last year. Fantasy and medieval conworlding is sorely underrepresented on modern Conworlds, as it was a staple of the website back when we were hosted on Wikia/Fandom. I am pleased to see that Roman Bread has kept it on the back-burner, at the very least signalling that one day he may keep adding to this intricate and wonderful creation! Fizzyflapjack (talk) 20:28, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Realstrange by Wisky. Out of all the projects to emerge in 2023, the realstrange AU is a personal favorite of mine. The setting is a mashup of real-world cultures synthesized into an interesting whole, with a particular focus on military history (and a not-so-subtle nod to Ace Combat). Realstrange is pulpy yet plausible; grandiose yet grounded. It provides plenty of entertainment for the reader, and imagination-fuel enough to tempt them to write. Furthermore, the energetic, welcoming community that has developed over the past year is nothing short of spectacular. Dawnstar (talk) 04:28, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Best New Biography Article

This award is for the best biography article on the wiki in 2023. Biography articles include any articles focusing on a specific individual.

Nominations

  • John Hansen by T0oxi22 and Emalia. This is a great biography, and a very hilarious read. It covers a type of biography not often seen, and it incorporates a lot of different pages and references. I also appreciate that it was a jointly-written article, as I think collaborations should be encouraged more often. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Samson Zima by T0oxi22. When I was looking through biographies that were made this year, to my surprise this page was actually from 2023. The Zima page is one of Altverse's best biographies in my opinion, and should certainly be recognized here. Emalia (talk) 18:55, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Best New Essential Article

This award is for the best essential topic article on the wiki in 2023. Essential topics include countries, politics and government (not including politicians), military, and major historical events.

Nominations

  • Khraelyia by Wisky. It is always such a treat to watch nation pages grow from a humble infobox into an excellent article. Khraelyia is comprehensive, well written, and easily clears the bar for what I consider to be a great nation page. It is unmistakably clear that it comes from a place of deep wondering about human life in one of Realstrange's major powers. I am excited to see what comes next for Khraelyia, and look forward to the continued development of the Realstrange AU on Conworlds! Fizzyflapjack (talk) 21:00, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Mejico by Hitcho11. This article is beautifully made and extremely detailed, to a certain extent you could easily mistake it to be an actual page from Wikipedia. As the first page in the Steel and Briddle universe, it also acts a introduction to an interesting monarchy-filled world, which is equally filled with interesting PODs, and is, as of this writing, the largest non-map game page on the entire wiki. Andy Irons (talk) 22:30, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
  • History of the Tessian Hegemony by Soilaf - Great and expansive new page that is unlike most other pages on the wiki. It also incorporates a large amount of original art and graphics, which make this page stand out. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Astoria by Mythopoeia - This page wasn't technically created this year (and therefore I understand if the nomination is removed), but the Astoria page was completely overhauled this year with impressive new content. The completed project now makes for a great page, and elevates Astoria to the upper echelon of Altverse countries. Emalia (talk) 18:55, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Best New Flavor Article

This award is for the best flavor topic article on the wiki in 2023. Flavor topics include culture, geography, language, religion, sports, entertainment, and miscellaneous topics.

Nominations

  • Rock Saga Evolution by Solace - This is a great article and creative mix of music, video games, and other flavor topics, exemplifying what makes Altverse such an interesting timeline. I especially enjoyed the many references and connections to other people's music pages, which give the impression of a lived-in world. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Fallout 1: New California by F0rsaken - This article is beautiful, including interesting lore and serving as a basis for more alternate Fallout content. Andy Irons (talk) 22:42, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Best New Altverse II Article

This award is for the best canonized Altverse II article in 2023.

Nominations

  • Federated Emirates of Arabia by BIPU is suitable for this category as I see that his article is fascinating and interesting. There are many details that we can read especially in history, geography, and economy. The national map for FEA is very detailed as it is categorized into emirates and governorates. The country's economy is very well-explained. (BBMhenggay (talk) 01:32, 31 January 2024 (UTC))

Best New Non-Altverse II Article

This award is for the best non-Altverse II-related article in 2023.

Nominations

  • Jenolites by T0oxi22 and Nathan1123. The joint authors of this page may still consider it incomplete and even average compared to other articles, but I think that doesn't tarnish its impressiveness one bit. I remember eagerly awaiting the next time one of them published another major edit to this page, and to be honest, there have not been a lot of pages I can remember without prompt that I wanted to keep reading so enthusiastically. I think that the best thing about this page is how out of the left field it feels compared to a lot of Conworlds project pages. Their aim was to create a legendary, pseudo-mythological history through the lens of a holy book being analyzed by contemporary scholars potentially hundreds if not thousands of years later. Toxi and Nate carefully layered viewpoints and interpretations on top of one another to make a page unlike few others. I still eagerly await to see if it continues to be expanded upon, as this is certainly one of my favourite new pages from 2023. Fizzyflapjack (talk) 20:43, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Best New Non-Mainspace Work

This award is for the best page that is not an encyclopedic entry on the mainspace in 2023. This includes pages that are in custom namespaces such as Quote:, News:, Roleplay:, and Cookbook:.

Nominations

  • Book:Robballgamer2009 by Robballgamer2009 (edited by T0oxi22). Robball was an enigmatic and illustrious user this year, and this page neatly catalogued his works into one central location for easy viewing. This was a great read, and the page itself was a great help. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Conworlds:Feudism by T0oxi22. Probably the best philosophy article on Conworlds thus far. This essay is well written and innovative, and a great resource for projects that I've seen referenced even outside Conworlds. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Cookbook:Will's quesadilla by Fizzyflapjack. The Cookbook namespace is an underappreciated namespace, that we definitely need more of, and this sounds like a great recipe! Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Conworlds:Nathan–Robball debate by T0oxi22. This event was greatly entertaining, and the article recap does justice to the event and fairly summarizes it. A great addition to the "philosophy" of the Wiki. Emalia (talk) 18:55, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Best New Emblem

This award is for the best new emblem (includes coats of arms, national insignia, and seals) that was uploaded on the wiki in 2023.

Nominations

  • Coat of Arms of the American Continental Republic by Emalia. This is an amazing emblem and fits perfectly into the United Commonwealth's ATL design norms. You can tell a lot of work went into this, both by combining OTL elements from different coats of arms in interesting new ways, but also in its incorporation of many completely custom elements made from scratch. Very well done, and probably the best I've seen from Emalia thus far. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Best New Map

This award is for the best new map that was uploaded on the wiki in 2023.

Nominations

  • World Map of Altverse II by Emalia. The Altverse II world map was literally years in the making, with many people trying and failing to make such a thing. Not only did Emalia deliver, she created a very aesthetically pleasing and well-designed world map, which the project badly needed. Not only does the map look nice, it's also functional and made with conworlders in mind. If you open the map in an SVG editor, you'll see that all the countries are properly grouped, and there are individual layers for countries, provinces, etc, meaning an editor can easily open this map and quickly create a derivative map for a particular country or other purpose. This attention to detail makes the map extremely useful. Renereve (talk) 19:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Discussion

  • As one of those aforementioned attempters to create the definitive AV2 map, I must confess that Emalia's work blows all others out of the water. I love her clean vector style of mapmaking, which delivers a digestible yet detailed overview of Conworlds' flagship project. For both style and utility, Emalia's map deserves the prize. This award is for the best new logo that was uploaded on the wiki in 2023. This includes corporate logos and political party symbols.

Nominations

The Senate of Liberta logo by Erik. The logo of the Senate of Liberta is simply stunning. There is a great balance between the details and the simplification of the more minute parts of subject which results in a beautifully composed but clean, crisp looking image. Libertan magenta is an iconic colour, and I think it really makes the finer details pop just that itsy bit more. I absolutely adore this logo, and I think Erik did an amazing job with it. Bravo! Best New Graphic

This award is for the best new graphic that are not maps, emblems, or logos that was uploaded on the wiki in 2023. This includes wiki templates and Photoshopped images.

Nominations

Samson Zima with John Avery by T0oxi22. This edit is really clean and seamless, and a nice incorporation of two great Altverse pages: John Avery and Samson Zima. Emalia (talk) 18:55, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Tertan by Soilaf. I think this image of Tertan is beautiful and represents the culmination of months of work by Soilaf in the graphical representation of their planets. Looking at the file history alone, you notice how there is a distinct progression in their style and level of detail. The end result is professional in quality–I have seen graphics of planets in recent AAA video games that don't even look this good. Excellent work! Fizzyflapjack (talk) 20:16, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Special nominations (Lifetime Achievements)

Lifetime Achievement: Author

This award is for the best writer across the entire lifetime of the Constructed Worlds Wiki (Fandom, Miraheze, and Indie).

Nominations

  • Centrist16. He is known for his contributions for Sierra in Altverse II and he did a great job as an editor. He deserves this award because he achieved to make his works interesting to us. (BBMhenggay (talk) 01:06, 31 January 2024 (UTC))
  • Fizzyflapjack. A veteran of the wiki going back to its early days, and a great contributor and writer all throughout. Not only that, he's been an excellent part of the wiki's administration for years, and in the past year took the reigns of a migration to a new website which he maintains, which in my opinion has been the most positive development in Conworlds history since its creation. Emalia (talk) 18:55, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
  • WorldMaker18 has spent years improving the wiki, specifically Altverse II. He has created excellent articles, and has helped with forming integral parts of project lore, both in Altverse and with other projects. I believe he well deserves recognition for his amazing contributions over the years. Andy Irons (talk) 22:47, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
  • T0oxi22 - One of the Wiki's best writers. Having only burst onto the scene a few years prior, Toxi's contributions to the Wiki are staggering and she has created some truly impressive pages. Renereve (talk) 07:58, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Lifetime Achievement: Project

This award is for the best project across the entire lifetime of the Constructed Worlds Wiki (Fandom, Miraheze, and Indie).

Nominations

  • Merveilles des Morte. A labor of love, well-deserving of a nomination for its detail and quality, and its achievements in strengthening the Althistory–Conworlds continuum. Dawnstar (talk) 17:57, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Kalșeri. Even though the country itself is an independent project, it deserves an award because the country's quality is almost similar to a real-life scenario and the country is nearly realistic in a fictional universe. (BBMhenggay (talk) 01:50, 1 February 2024 (UTC))

Lifetime Achievement: Article

This award is for the best article across the entire lifetime of the Constructed Worlds Wiki (Fandom, Miraheze, and Indie).

Nominations

  • Derigi Empire by Emalia. While originally started by Neesym in 2019, since its 2020 update by Emalia, its been featured and has become a pinnacle for quality world-building this decade. It was up previously for this nomination last year, losing to Sierra, and definitively deserves lifetime recognition this time around. Solace (talk) 04:51, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
  • History of the United Commonwealth by T0oxi22 - This page is the gold standard for history pages, one of the longest pages on the Wiki in general, and a crucial page for Altverse. Renereve (talk) 07:58, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
