Agustín VI (born in the Palace of Las Flores, Toluca, Mejico, 16 October 1968) is the current Emperor of Mejico, an executive monarchy located in North America. The title of Emperor is the highest office in the Mejican government, by which he holds the office of Head of State and supreme command of the Mejican Armed Forces since 2014.

Agustín is the son of former Emperor Fernando II and Queen Mother Ana Margarita and has four sisters: María Cristina, María Isabel, Ana María, Queen of Louisiana, and Victoria, Princess Consort of Brazil. In 1990, Agustín married the Spanish princess María Gómez-Acebo, daughter of the Duchess of Badajoz and relative of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. Together, they have six children: Juan, Duke of Tlaxcala, Agustín, Duke of Guadalajara, Pablo, Duke of Veracruz, Pedro, Duke of Puebla, Sofía, Princess of Uruguay, María de las Mercedes, Duchess in Bavaria, and Blanca, Duchess of Valladolid.

Born during the reign of his unmarried and childless grand-uncle Agustín V, it was already expected that Agustín would inherit the throne in the future, being the only male-line descendant of Agustín V's brother, Emiliano III. As such, his education was carefully crafted to prepare him for his future role as Emperor. Agustín VI received a private education, with tutors hired by his parents to teach him about statesmanship, history, politics, economics, and military strategy. He also attended prestigious schools in Europe, including the Complutense University of Madrid and the Sorbonne in France.

In addition to his formal education, Agustín VI was trained in martial arts and marksmanship, completing his military service in the Mejican Army as a young man. During his time in the military, he was trained in martial arts, marksmanship, and military strategy, which helped him develop a deep understanding of the challenges and requirements of military operations. Agustín's experience in the military, combined with his leadership abilities, quickly led to his promotion to higher ranks. He served in various positions within the army, including as a platoon leader, company commander, and battalion commander, gaining valuable experience in military operations. In recognition of his leadership, Agustín was promoted to the rank of general, becoming one of the youngest generals in the history of the Mejican Army. He was tasked with overseeing the modernization and expansion of the army during his reign as emperor, which he achieved with great success.

Agustín is widely known for his love of culture and the arts. He is a great patron of the arts, regularly attending performances at the Mejican National Theater and sponsoring young artists and musicians. He also has a keen interest in science, and has encouraged research and innovation in fields such as renewable energy, medicine, and space colonization. A fan of sports, Agustín is an avid horseback rider, and has been known to spend hours riding with his children and Mejican aristocrats. He is a fan of Real Club América's football and harpast divisions, often being spotted spectating matches in the royal box.

As a devout Catholic, Agustín is a patron of multiple monasteries and convents across Mejico and regularly attends Mass and other religious events. He has also been appointed as the grandmaster of several Catholic Military Orders in Mejico. Additionally, he has maintained a positive relationship with the Inquisition, being a personal friend of Inquisitor General Francisco Gómez de Mendiola, recognizing its role in protecting the faith and promoting unity among the people. Political commentators and analysts have compared him to his father for his authoritarian leanings, especially after the protests of 2023.

Early life and family

Agustín was born at the Palace of Las Flores in Toluca on October 16, 1968. He was the third child and first son of Fernando, Prince Imperial, and his wife Ana Margarita of France, who already had two daughters, María and Isabel.

He was baptized on 25 October 1968 at the Palace of Chapultepec by the Archbishop of Mejico, Miguel Darío Miranda. Born a sickly child, he was baptized with water from the groffo of Our Lady of Lourdes. His full baptismal name, Agustín Fernando Víctor Juan Pablo Emiliano Enrique Francisco de Paula Nicolás Juan Diego Felipe de Jesús Evaristo de Lourdes de la Santísima Trinidad de Borbón-Iturbide y Orléans, denotes the deep religious devotion of his parents and family tradition, being named after his ancestors, Catholic religious figures and places, while "de la Santísima Trinidad" (of the Most Holy Trinity) is customary of the House of Bourbon-Iturbide.

His godparents were his aunt Sofía Leonor and her husband Ramón Federico, VII Duke of Loreto de Indias. Mejican dictator Salvador Abascal was also present at his baptism, given the close relationship of Abascal and the Mejican Imperial family. Other figures present at his baptism were high-ranking military, ecclesiastical, and civil authorities, as well as foreign dignitaries from Iberoamerica, such as Fernando María Castiella, Spain's Foreign Minister, and the Prime Minister of Brazil, the Duke of Castelo Branco.

His ancestry is tied to the royal houses of France, Spain, Brazil, New Granada, Argentina, Portugal, as well as important houses within the Holy Roman Empire, such Austria, Saxony, and Bavaria.

On 8 January 1977, shortly after the abdication of his grandfather, Agustín received the title of Prince Imperial, as well as all other subsidiary titles associated with the heir apparent of the Mejican Empire, such as Duke of Tlaxcala and Prince of Otumba, while his father became Emperor Fernando II. His grandfather, in the signing the act of abdication referred to Agustín as his most beloved grandson.
