Christian, the King Emeritus (Christian Henry Stephen Philipp William Augustus Miller; born January 25, 1948) is a member of the Superian royal family who reigned as King of Superior from 1993 to his abdication in 2015.

Christian was born in the Heartland Palace in Saint Anthony, Minneapolis. As the second son of William I and Maria Christina of Württemberg, Christian was not expected to inherit the throne. After finishing his primary education at the Heartland Palace, Christian enlisted in the Superian Royal Navy, attending King George Royal Naval College and being commissioned as a sub-lieutenant. He remained in the navy until 1992, when he was forced to retire after becoming the heir presumptive to his newly-ascended brother, Henry II. Christian operated as the Prince of Lakota for two-years before suceeding his brother in 1993 after he had died due to complications with the HIV virus.

His reign saw the end of the Cold War with the United Commonwealth and the Chattanooga Pact, numerous overhauls of the Superian healthcare system, and the improvement of Native American sovereignty in Superior. Christian's reign remained largely uncontroversial until his latter years, when leaked documents in 2011 allegedly revealed his political beliefs and favoritism towards certain politicians. In 2015, Christian abdicated in favor of his eldest son, William II, after being diagnosed with lung cancer. In 2017, it was reported that his health had improved and in the same year he returned to royal duties alongside his wife, Evelyn, albeit in a reduced capacity due to his medical issues.

Early life and education

Christian was born on January 28, 1948 at Heartland Palace in Saint Anthony, Minneapolis. He was born the second son and child of William I and Maria Christina of Württemberg, the younger brother to the future Henry II, and the eventual elder brother of Prince Ernst and Princess Marie Josephine. Christian was educated at the Heartland Palace, and as he was not expected to inherit the throne, he was groomed by his father for a career in the Superian Armed Forces. According to royal insiders, Christian had a shallow relationship with his elder brother for most their childhood, as it was alleged that their father favored Christian more than Henry.

After the completion of his primary education, Christian enlisted into the Superian Royal Navy, following in the footsteps of his father and uncle. Christian attended the King George Royal Naval College in Green Bay, where he received officer training. He graduated in 1972 and was commissioned to the RSNS Restoration, which at the time was considered the "pride of the fleet" and a prestigious commission for first-time officers. He served on the Restoration until the ship's decommissioning in 1980, where he transferred to the RSNS North Star, a destroyer in the Destroyer Squadron. In 1990, Christian was made a commandore and gained the North Star as his first command. He forced to retire from active naval service in 1992 after his father's death in 1992, as he had became heir presumptive to his brother, Henry II.

Prince of Lakota

Upon the death of his father and the ascension of his brother in 1992, Christian became heir presumptive to the throne. He became heir presumptive as his brother was unmarried and had no children. Christian was confirmed as the heir to the throne on December 7, 1992, when he was given the title of Prince of Lakota during his brother's coronation ceremony. Christian had the shortest tenure of any heir to the Superian throne, serving as heir to his brother for a total of a year.

As the heir to the throne, Christian represented his brother, family, and the monarchy at a number of diplomatic events and royal ceremonies. His involvement in the day-to-day duties of the sovereign became more prominent as his brother's health worsened. In August of 1993, Christian was made the long-term regent by Henry II and with approval from Parliament was transferred nearly all of the constitutional duties and powers of the sovereign. His regency ended with the death of his brother and his ascension to the throne in 1993.

Ascension and coronation

On December 13, 1993, Christian ascended to the throne immediately following the death of Henry II. His first public appearance as sovereign was an hour after his ascension, when he and his family travelled to the Heartland Palace and met with mourning crowds gathered at the palace's front gate. He gave his first royal address as sovereign on the same day, reflecting on the legacy of his brother.

According to parliamentary insiders, Christian's coronation was planned in advanced by Parliament and royal advisors as it was generally believed by the government that Henry II would not recover from his illness. The coronation of Christian was held on January 28, 1994, three days after his forty-sixth birthday, at St. Paul's Cathedral in Saint Anthony. It was attended by a number of foreign dignitaries and royalty, including the then-Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Colorado, and the King and Queen of France. It was speculated that Christian would take a regnal name, as his birth name had no connection to past Superian royalty. It was speculated by media outlets that Christian might chose to reign as George IV or William II. On January 15, 1994, it was confirmed that Christian would retain his name by Heartland Palace.

Marriage, family, and interests

While attending a royal function, Christian met and befriended Evelyn Habsburg de Brazos, a member of the exiled Brazorian royal family. The two formed a romantic relationship and were married in 1974. Their wedding was highly publicized by international media, as it was viewed as a union between the Brazorian and Superian royal families. The couple have three children: William II, Prince August, Duke of Madison, and Princess Anna, Landgravine of Bismarck.
