Iliac Bay
The Iliac Bay, also known as Starfall Bay, is a body of water in northwestern Tamriel. It is an arm of the Eltheric Ocean, and separates the region of High Rock in the north from Hammerfell in the south. The Bjoulsae River empties into the Bay near Wayrest.
History
In prevailing Tamrielic histories, the Isle of Balfiera in the northern Iliac Bay was the site of Convention, a meeting of the gods which set in place the laws of reality over all creation. The Adamantine Tower on Balfiera is believed to be the meeting-place where Convention occurred, and scholars date its construction to ME 2500 at the latest.[1][2]
The Iliac Bay was rediscovered by Topal the Pilot in the Middle Merethic, as one of the first areas he encountered while sailing northeast from the Summerset Isles. The epic of Topal, Udhendra Nibenu, praises the "gentle dells" at the mouth of the bay, but claims the land was then inhabited by vicious "orcs". It is unknown if these orcs were the Orsimer, or perhaps an ancestral goblinoid race.[3]
After the voyages of Topal, Aldmer colonists soon arrived in the Iliac Bay. Foremost among the families was the Direnni, a magically-inclined clan who took an interest in the Adamantine Tower, and settled on Balfiera. Nedes also inhabited the region at this time, and mixed with the incoming Aldmer, becoming the ancestors of the Bretons.
