List of Rulers of Lágrstrǫnd (Merveilles des Morte)

This page lists the rulers of Lágrstrǫnd, including the semi-legendary rulers from the Farsærk Dynasty. Lágrstrǫnd is believed to have been first settled by the Norse in the 11st century during the early phases of the colonization of Vinland. According to legend, the founders of Lágrstrǫnd descend from Thorkel Farsærk, a legendary hero and chieftain in Greenland who was the nephew of Erik the Red. The first fully historically attested goði in Lágrstrǫnd is Tjordrek the Hangman, who is believed to have lived from about 1216 to 1259. The Farsærk Dynasty continued to rule as Goði of Lágrstrǫnd until the reign of Tíseðun the Great, who was declared the first storgoðar in Vinland. In 1550 his descendant Kórikuus the Founder would become the first goði to roughly unify the island, claiming the title of King of Vinland.

Goði of Lágrstrǫnd

Semi-Legendary

According to legend the first settler of Lágrstrǫnd was Thorvald Ísfingur, a legendary hero of the Battle of Boghmoot and the grandson of Thorkel Farsærk. Thorvald's father was Ásvaldur Thorkelsson, who may have been a companion of Leif Eriksson.

Storgoðar of Ísagríma

During the reign of Tíseðun the Great, Lágrstrǫnd conquered Ísagríma and greatly expanded its borders. Tíseðun was declared the first storgoðar, or "high chief" in Vinland. From his reign onward the rulers of Lágrstrǫnd would style themselves Storgoðar of Ísagríma, after moving the capital of the nation to the more populous city.

Kings of Vinland

In 1519 Kórikuus the Founder became Storgoðar of Ísagríma, a high chiefdom that roughly corresponded to the northwestern half of Vinland, ruling over all the island except parts of Bárðsland, Nóatúna, and the eastern peninsula of Austskag. With the assistance of Europeans such as the French, Kórikuus began a campaign of conquest and diplomacy across the rest of the island, roughly uniting the entirety of Vinland under his rule by 1550. That year he was proclaimed King of Vinland by an assembly of nobles, and established the first true hereditary dynasty over the entire island.
