Session

The Tentative Onworlders have gained notoriety and reputation from their recent actions.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, during the 19th century, there is a priest, tending orphans at a local parish church. The orphans, lined up, are waiting for St. Juan Pablo to wake up, and serve them their porridge. He awakens, quite elderly, and greets the orphaned children. All the orphans eagerly take the bowls of porridge, and they eat communally. Sister Marianna requests for his assistance and someone fetches St. Juan Pablo to go help her. He grabs some boxes from Sister Marianna and unloads them into the church. The boxes are quite heavy but he is able to carry them just fine. However, he is pretty tired from the day's labor. Due to his advanced age, he is relieved from work. He then does some prayers and gives himself a sponge bath. He has a nice bath and feels quite refreshed. He then rings a bell and calls for Sister Marianna to help him get out of the bathtub. She grabs a towel and allows him to maintain his modesty as he robes. He finally prepares for his afternoon nap. Sister Marianna offers him a cup of water. She turns around and grabs it, and gives it to him. He then rests. Suddenly, he jolts up as he hears glass shatter. He notices something is amiss as everything is dark. He slept longer than he expected. He gets up and tries to investigate. He throws on his robes and slippers. As he approaches the source of the noise, he hears murmuring and shuffling around. He pokes his head out and sees three masked figures. He catches them in the act. One of them approaches him and unmasks himself. It is Sister Marianna. She says she and the others are just unloading boxes. St. Juan Pablo does not trust her words and wonders why she is helping the two other men. She explains that these other men were from another parish and who wants to take the supplies away from the selfish orphans. St. Juan Pablo insists that they bring this to the attention to the head parish priest. She follows him and then trips him intentionally. He falls and he is shocked. He is fine but is able to stand back up in a surprising act of spry youth. Sister Marianna says she had slipped a sleeping concoction into his water and he was not supposed to wake up. She then whispers to the other two and he overhears her that they need to take him out. He begs for his life but then has no choice but to defend himself.

One of the masked figures lunges a fifty pound box at St. Juan Pablo instantaneously. It lands on his chest and he finally dies. His vision fades away and notices that Sister Marianna and the other two hooded figures argue and panic as they realize the grave sin they have committed. He does his own final rites. His vision slowly restores as he opens his eyes. It does not appear to be Heaven and he finds himself in a grey chamber. His voice sounds slightly different and he feels surprisingly nimbler. He sees Renaissance-styled portraits around him and on the floor, he sees various symbols. He also sees graffitied inscription which says "hello, pick this up". He takes a moment to process everything and notices his hands are green. He rubs his eyes and looks around, and finds a crudely drawn map. Among other things, he learns he must go to Windward and should not trust the Fire Nation, and that he should not tell anyone that he is from another "realm". He picks up a stone next to the map which begins to glow. He leaves the map in the box but keeps the stone, which continues to emit a softly lit glow.

He sees a way out and walks through the passageway. As he meanders out of the passageway, he sees that he is in, what appears to be a mineshaft. As he goes up, he notices that the stone glows brighter and brighter. He continues moving. As it continues to glow, suddenly, his surroundings change and he finds himself teleported into the middle of a random township. He finds himself amidst a great crowd. He asks where he is. One of the pedestrians say he is in Windward. Juan Pablo asks him if he knows anything about the details of the map, specifically for a man with biceps and with a bow, and one who hunts the "sky dragon". He mentions he was looking for a "hero" and the man says he heard that there was a hero who was heading southward but instead, went northwestward. He hears about a recent incident of orphans and it piques his interest.

St. Juan Pablo goes in the last known direction of the party he is looking for. He catches up to the Tentative Onworlders, on their way, who recognize him as the fated fifth member. After they ask him a number of questions to confirm his identity and where he originated from, they welcome him in. Rok explains everything to him. They bring him to a blacksmith's shop where they give him fuller details. St. Juan Pablo is confused where he is in this afterlife, and wonders why he is not in heaven. He says he was only 98 years old when he was still alive. Mid-speaking, he falls asleeps, out of natural habit. St. Juan Pablo wonders why everyone looks bizarre. He suits up with armor and they tell him to touch various weapons. He turns down each weapon as he insists that he does not fight. He is handed a stick and it zaps him. He drops it.

Meanwhile, outside, there is a huge outcry out in the town. Someone says that they want to give thanks to well-armed heroes who saved orphans. St. Juan Pablo hears this and affirms the value of orphans' lives. Rok then breaks two sticks and puts it into an "X", and St. Juan Pablo eagerly accepts it, recognizing it to be a cross, but it zaps him, and he drops it. Rok then finds a note written by Ore'zham which reads "Dear diary, I started making custom-engraved weapons and this guy wanted a mace named Tony but I actually miswrote it with a lowercase 't' on it. P.S., I think some Outworlders will come and take them, haha, fuck 'em." Nasoj and Rok retrieves this weapon.

Jed and Johnnie converse with St. Juan Pablo, who they learn turned out to be from Mexico and was a missionary from Alta California. Jed is greatly astonished as he wanted to go to California. Nasoj and Rok come back with a relic weapon which glows and a large "cross" appears on it. After he holds on it, he realizes that it glows and it does not zap him. To his eyes, it appears to be a cross-shaped double mace. He does a little prayer and inadvertently casts "blessing" and everyone feels better. There is some confusion between Rok and St. Juan Pablo as they talk about prayer and lore. St. Juan Pablo, through misunderstanding, believes that the Fire Nation that Rok mentions are "voodoo atheists" and vermin who will attack orphans. Eventually, despite fundamental misunderstandings, St. Juan Pablo is convinced to join the Tentative Onworlders. After a very, very lengthy discussion, they make their way out of the town, and head to Galestone.

As they head northward, the crowds around them disperse and they continue down the road. It is a calm day as they get to know one another. It gets late and they set up camp. They chatter in the night and then, a hooded man hobbles over with a staff. It is another old man who is looking for people. The old man says he was searching for a group with four people. However, he sees that their group is five-manned. They see that the old man was holding a wanted poster that they had sent a party of four, wishing to apprehend them for messing with William the Younger. They convince him that they are not a group to associate with, and he hobbles off, with his muscular legs of metal showing off. They realize it was William the Elder, who was headhunting for them. Rok tries to call him back but the old man does not return.

They decide to rest but in the early morning, St. Juan Pablo ventures ahead of the path on his own, but because he was so used to being an old man, he only advances 300 meters ahead, having taken plenty of nap breaks. They eventually get to the next city and sees a large castle in the distance. They head to the library where Rok wants to read and acquire more knowledge. They approach the gates. Rok, Nasoj, and Jed are let through, after showing their ID. St. Juan Pablo tries to walk through, not understanding he needs to show his ID, and says his name. The guard says they were expecting a priest by that name incidentally, and allows him through. Johnnie tries to go through, whom the guard had accused of being a line-cutter, and questions the validity of the silver rank appearing on his ID. He says if he is here for the tournament where the Queen recruits the finest champions to serve in her royal guard. He is let through but the guard says he will be watching him. Line-cutting is a Class III offense and there are three strikes. He leaves a check on his ID and onlookers scornfully chastise Johnnie.

St. Juan Pablo heads his way to a church. There is a long line and St. Juan Pablo cuts through the line, and explains he is a priest wanted. There is a priest-only line and he is sent there. He is greeted in. as they were expecting a "John Paul", who is due to deliver a sermon.

Rok, Nasoj, and Jed lose track of where Johnnie is. They catch up with him and Johnnie informs them that there is a tournament going on. Rok inquires a random bystander where they can sign up for a tournament. He informs him that they need to first receive a blessing at the church before they are allowed to participate. They head to the same church where St. Juan Pablo is, and they invite the man to come with them, who is also interested in joining. His name is Ron Paul.

They wait in line for the church and do their best to avoid even the semblance that they even are attempting to cutting the line. After 23 minutes, they make it into the church, just in time for St. Juan Pablo's sermon. Ron Paul does not recognize St. Juan Pablo but Rok "reminds" him that questioning someone's identity is a Class X offense. Interruption is a Class II offense one of the priests in the church interjects. This same priest introduces Juan Pablo as a man of understanding quality. Laughing during the sermon is considered a Class II offense. They can clap three times. St. Juan Pablo delivers a sermon on 2 Corinthians 5:17, including references to Jesus and new creation.

During the mid-sermon, Jed farts, which is a forgivable offense, but Rok laughs at this, and is given a Class II offense.

Later, they reunite with St. Juan Pablo and they make their way to the city's local guild hall to sign up for the tournament. St. Juan Pablo, who was previously unranked, is given an automatic silver rank since he is a priest. In line there, they meet up with Girthak, now a gold ranker. They overhear him taking credit for helping Molemar and saving orphans, taking credit that the Tentative Onworlders did. Rok accidentally cuts in line in front of Johnnie and there is a brief misunderstanding. The guild secretary says that two of them: Nasoj and Rok, need someone outside their party to vouch for their rank, as they do not have the minimum silver rank yet. They try to get Girthak to vouch for them, and they reunite with him. Girthak offers to vouch for them, if they also vouch for him because some of the others doubt Girthak's stories. Rok then vouches for Girthak. Rok says William is scared of Girthak. Girthak then returns the favor, vouching for them, and Nasoj and Rok become silver ranks.

The secretary informs them that Mothman's wedding is tomorrow and the tournament will occur in two days. For the night, they will be sharing chambers with another adventurer. They go upstairs and Rok starts corrupting St. Juan Pablo. He says that in order to save orphans, he must make orphans. They meet the stranger adventurer who keeps to himself. The hooded figure turns out to actually be the Mothman. Mothman says he has been waiting to meet Jed all this time, as he was the famed impostor. He cuts a deal, if Jed agrees to dispose of the Mothman family's assets, as he ran away because he believed his family was fraudulent and corrupt. According to Aaracockra custom, the groom must fight the father to wed the bride. The real Mothman encourages Jed to read up on the Mothman family lore and Aaracockra traditions. If everything goes as planned, "Jim" Mothman will not reveal Jed's true identity.

Jed and Rok read Mothman family culture. Nasoj and Johnnie go for drinks in the night, while St. Juan Pablo goes straight to bed. Jed and Rok learn that the Mothman patriarch has repeatedly had incestuous relations with his daughters and at any point one of his daughters are to bewedded, the groom is unknown, and the father has been able to prevail and "marry" his own daughter, and in other instances, the outsider groom has prevailed. Rok is thoroughly disgusted by this history. The current head of the family has successfully married his daughters four time. They learn a challenger groom is allowed to surrender, and also recruit members to join the party and fight. The role of "matriarch" transfers to the youngest adult daughter in the Mothman family. The reason the father has won so often, whenever the challenger rose, the challenger's allies betrayed him and surrendered, to get closer with the daughter.

The next day, Rok sleeps, traumatized. The party prepares for the wedding. They line up into the church and Jed is led in. The ceremony begins and the bride walks in. The aaracockra chirp in excitement. St. Juan Pablo announces the bride: Juliet Mothman, and asks who wishes to take her hand. Jed stands up as a challenger and others join in. Jed then chooses his fellow members of the Tentative Onworlders, and as soon as he chooses St. Juan Pablo, the father immediately uppercuts the Mothman patriarch. The wedding brawl begins!

Rok shoots a ray of ice through all four of the Mothman patriarch's allies. Then Rok casts acidic breath on them. Johnnie then casts his sorcery to build upon the damage his party members casted. The Mothman patriarch, having witnessed his underlings being pummeled, he casts silence and everyone is shrouded in a sphere of voidness, and then attacks St. Juan Pablo. One of the henchman slashes Rok. Another henchman shoots two arrows at Jed, and one of them hits. Another tries to attack Johnnie. Jed then flies over and casts earth tremor on two of the henchmen, and take out one completely, while the other is forced down prone. Rok unleashes another attack and takes out yet another henchman. Nasoj swings his axe but misses hitting the patriarch. He keeps missing as he swings violently. Johnnie expends most of his spells onto the patriarch. Angered, he extends his wing and shoot his quills at Johnnie but fail to hit. One of his quills misses so completely, which grazes his own friend, who barely survives. Jed gets badly wounded and accidentally hits Nasoj as he tries to retaliate. Rok blinds the patriarch, who is now both blind and deaf. Nasoj swings violently against the patriarch and is able to disable the silence sphere around them. Johnnie sets the patriarch on fire, who is barely clinging onto life. In a final hail Mary, he shoots out all of his quills and is able to hit Jed, Johnnie, and St. Juan Pablo. St. Juan Pablo delivers the final blow against the patriarch, saying "no more orphans", kills him, and then heals Jed, having seen him fall prone. The bride then approaches the altar and Jed joins her. St. Juan Pablo then pronounces Jim and Juliette as husband and wife. Per tradition, Juliette flies away to tend to the ancestral nest. As his first act of patriarch, Jed says that all of the Mothman family assets will be donated to the orphanage. The real Mothman shows up and thanks Jed for making good on the promise and then comes for the patriarch's corpse, and takes his beak, saying he had been trying for years to assassinate the patriarch, Richard Mothman. As soon as he is about to leave, he mentions he now looks forward to a life to stopping orphans, upon which immediately, Juan Pablo seizes him and pulls out a blunt weapon and presses it against the impostor's neck and then kills him. Rok uncovers a journal from the impostor aaracockra and reads it and learns that he had been plotting for days. The party then goes out to celebrate the wedding and go out for drinks and eat fried aaracockra.

They head to the guild hall to turn in the commission for the death of Richard Mothman. They present the beak as proof of the commission. It was a special bounty and they are promised a special prize when they come back the next morning, prior to the tournament. The secretary thanks them for being so polite and not cutting in line, as they take it very seriously. They party the night away and then rest, as they prepare for the tournament.
