Commission on the Establishment of an American currency
The Commission on the Establishment of an American currency (COMAMERO), commonly referred to as the Amero Commission or the Currency Commission, is an advisory body and commission in the American Customs Authority that is responsible for the establishment of a single currency to be used by the member states of the Conference of American States (CAS) known officially as the Amero. The commission was established in 2010 to lay the groundwork for and eventually establish the Amero as a formal currency whose adoption would be determined by the member states themselves once the currency had been created.
History
Establishment
The commission started as a proposal by Boris Griffiths, an MAP of the Liberal Democrats of America and senior fellow of the United Federalists of America organization, back in 2009 as the idea of pursuing further integration was being discussed and became a focal point during the elections to the American Parliament in 2010 where the Liberal Democrats endorsed the idea along with the Social Democrats of America, the Red-Green Alliance and the Alliance for American Unity. After the election, the LDA-led government in the American Parliament would establish the commission following the passage of the American Currency Commission Act (nicknamed the Amero Act) which passed in September.
