The Tessian Hegemony, also sometimes referred to as the Tessian Empire, the Tessian Star Empire, the Tessian Star Hegemony, the Star Hegemony, the Benevolent Hegemony, or most often as the Hegemony, is an interstellar hyperpower originating from the habitable terrestrial planet Tertan, located within the Far 3 kpc arm of the Milky Way. A far-left communist state, the Hegemony is known for its supremacism and speciesism towards the Aerlons (a race of very human-like aliens originally native to the nation's home planet) and their disenfranchisement of all others within the nation. At its territorial maximum in the late 21st century, the Tessian Hegemony had control over a total of 47 individual solar systems including its home system, the Polytinaris System.

The Hegemony was founded after a rebellion led by its soon-to-be leader Tessia von Gretolia began against the previous rulers of the triple Polytinaris system, the moderately centrist Polytinaris Commonwealth, a nation which had ruled over said system for many centuries of peace and prosperity, though had been in decline for around one hundred years by the time of the Tessian revolution in the year 1998. Forcing her totalitarian rule over its three component solar systems through use of carefully planned military invasions, Tessia's leadership ensured that the forces of the Commonwealth and other resistance militaries were brutally crushed in a final battle around the habitable moon Kebo on April 17. Once that was completed, the Hegemony underwent a period of interstellar expansionism, conquering dozens of other solar systems and enslaving whatever native aliens happened to inhabit said systems. By the time of its peak extent in the mid-21st century, it controlled a total of 47 different star systems, including Polytinaris itself.

After enjoying several decades of unrivaled dominance over the Polytinaris Spur region, fortunes went south for the Tessian Hegemony starting in the year 2113, when it first made contact with and mounted a war against the Kingdom of Ironia-Ursonberg. Although the Hegemony was much stronger than its adversary, it ultimately was forced into a peace deal with no gains after a rebellion of multiple alien races it had subjugated many years prior gained significant traction and inflicted heavy losses on the Benevolent Star Navy. The situation soured further after the unexplained death of Tessia von Gretolia in March of 2119 instigated a second conflict between the two nations. By this point, the once great Tessian Hegemony buckled under the strain of non-aerlon revolts, a political power struggle, and poor leadership by its new Benevolent Premier Hanelia Siaena. The nation collapsed on September 10, 2122, and after some further infighting within its remains, it was replaced with the Stellar Commonwealth, a liberal democracy aimed at reconstructing good relations between its member species.

The Tessian Hegemony is a left-wing socialist state, with almost every aspect of its economy (save for some niche industries like the arts & entertainment sector) being regulated and operated by the state. Most of these large state-owned companies derive their output from non-aerlon slave labor, with alien workers being subjected to appalling living conditions and frequent episodes of physical abuse from their aerlon masters. Some slave-owners claim to see their aliens as "real people" though treat them as animals and deem them to be inferior anyway. Despite discrimination and mistreatment of aliens, aerlons have many social freedoms (as long as the protection of such freedoms does not jeopardize the integrity of the Hegemony) with legislation protecting the rights of minority and dark-skinned aerlons, providing accessible facilities for disabled and neurodivergent individuals, providing women access to abortion & birth control, and supporting the LGBTQ+ community with protecting same-sex marriages and gender-conforming care. Non-aerlons have none of these freedoms, however; public execution is the most common form of criminal punishment for them.

Though legally considered an atheist state, most aerlons of the Hegemony have beliefs that they are the chosen successors by the now extinct Palaeroni race and have been delegated with a task of conquering and cleansing the known universe for their satisfaction. According to ancient texts found within ruins constructed throughout Polytinaris, the Palaeroni had control of the entire galaxy and ruled it under a state known as the First Hegemony. Despite there being little legal state sponsorship of this belief, the Hegemony in practice promotes the religion to a significant extent, conducting genocides and forced exterminations of other religions and faiths on the grounds of its superiority.
