The General Secretary of the Continentalist Party of the United Commonwealth is the head of the Continentalist Party of the United Commonwealth (CPUC) and the highest-ranking official within the United Commonwealth. The general secretary is the head of the Secretariat of the United Commonwealth and a standing member of the Central Committee.
According to the 1982 Constitution, the general secretary is the highest-ranking party official of the Continentalist Party of the United Commonwealth, the only legal political party in the country. The general secretary is an ex officio member of the Central Committee, the de facto top decision-making body. Throughout Continental history, the general secretary has had varying degree of power and responsibilities. Although the general secretary is the highest-ranking public official in the United Commonwealth (outranking state offices including the president), the de facto head of state is known as the paramount leader, who may or may not necessarily hold office as general secretary.
The general secretary is nominally elected by members of the Central Committee of the Continentalist Party. The general secretary presides over the administration of the Secretariat and works with the Central Committee and Congress of the Continentalist Party of the United Commonwealth. The current general secretary is Daniel Muir, who assumed the office on August 1, 2018.
