The People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (PCIA), also known simply as Internal Affairs, is the supreme interior ministry of the United Commonwealth of Continentalist States, responsible for domestic and foreign intelligence and counterintelligence, public and political security, and secret police services. Founded in 1921 upon the formation of the union, Internal Affairs evolved from the Extraordinary Commission established in the provisional government of Aeneas Warren, led by first People's Commissar Dorian Conesus. In 1925 the foreign department of Internal Affairs was separated into the Commissariat for Inter-Services Intelligence, which remains the country's principle civilian foreign intelligence service. In the modern era the Internal Affairs ministry is one of the largest in the country and the world, employing an estimated 1,735,000 people, and containing numerous branches and sub-agencies. The Commissariat is headquartered at Vanguard Central Campus, located in Chicago. Internal Affairs is a permanent executive department of the Council of People's Commissars, and its current head is Tatiana Morganti.

Internal Affairs is responsible for operating a monopoly over law enforcement activities within the nation, encompassing the nation's police force ("militia"), gendarmerie forces (People's National Guard), border control and security, and national correctional facilities. Throughout its history, Internal Affairs has served as a controversial branch of the United Commonwealth government, as it has been used to suppress and monitor dissidence, and has at various points in its history operated secret police forces and re-education facilities.
