The 2021 Cornerstone gubernatorial election was held on November 30, 2021 to elect the Governor of Cornerstone. Incumbent governor Justin Amax of the Royalist Party was ineligible to run for another term because of term limits under the Constitution of Cornerstone.
The election was originally supposed to take place on May 17, but it was delayed to November due to logistical complications and health concerns as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Royalist and Democratic-Republican primaries were held in September, with the Christian Democrats opting to switch to a party convention format to select their candidate. Due to their limited presence in the province, the Social Democrats did not field their own candidate, instead endorsing the Democratic-Republicans. Lieutenant Governor George Rodriguez (R), General Assemblyman Julian Espinoza (D-R), and Leopold Heisenberg (CD) were all chosen by their respective parties to be their gubernatorial candidates.
George Rodriguez won in a landslide, with 68% of the vote, the biggest victory in a gubernatorial race in Cornerstone for a non-incumbent in history. Rodriguez received over 92,000 votes and will assume office on December 14, 2021.
Unlike the traditional primary election system used in previous elections, the Cornerstone Christian Democrats voted to hold a convention similar to national party conventions, where delegates of the party would select a nominee. The switch to this format would be highly criticized for its undemocratic nature, as party delegates were selected by party leadership rather than voters.
