Akula's Friends is an active pirate crew that was established in 15 AH. It is commanded by Captain Willem and his first mate Maren. Its port of operations is Atlas Bay and their ship is the Friend Ship. The crew's name derives from one of its members Akula, who declared that every member he met in the crew were his friends.

The crew was established during a Grand Tournament held on Discovery Day at the Atlas Colosseum. Akula's Friends were the victors of the competitive event and were the favored crew by Dr. Adonis Langston, the main organizer of the event. Following their victory, Dr. Langston bestowed one of his prized ships to the crew. After Captain Willem gained the deed to the ship, he ordered his crewmates to recruit more Atlanteans to fill in for the vacancies on the ship. After accepting the recruits that joined, they began their maiden voyage as a pirate crew.
