Maren is an Atlantean female water genasi druid and pirate. She is the first mate and quartermaster of Akula's Friends on the SS Friend Ship.

Little is known about Maren's early life or origins. It is speculated that she and other water genasi originate from underwater civilizations located either within or near the Dreamwell. It is believed that at some point, she came into contact with the human Willem and the two became romantic partners. The two traveled the world and were devotees to the Drowned God as strict monotheists. By 15 AH, both Maren and Willem arrived to Atlas where they formed the pirate crew Akula's Friends with other like-minded individuals. She was designated the crew's first mate by popular vote and distinguished herself in combat during Akula's Friend's debut battle within the Atlas Colosseum. She was able to shapeshift and displayed versatile range in water combat. The battle itself was a mock naval battle competition that granted the victors a free ship that belonged to Dr. Adonis Langston. Following receipt of the ship, Maren was officially recognized as the ship's first mate and quartermaster.
