Willem's Willies, formerly known as Akula's Friends, is an active pirate crew that was established in 15 AH. It is commanded by Captain Willem and his first mate Maren. Its port of operations is Atlas Bay and their ship is the Drowning Durgl, formerly known as the SS Friend. The crew's original name derives from one of its members Akula, who declared that every member he met in the crew were his friends. After Akula's leave of absence, it was renamed to Willem's Willies in honor of its captain.

The crew was established during a Grand Tournament held on Discovery Day at the Atlas Colosseum. Akula's Friends were the victors of the competitive event and were the favored crew by Dr. Adonis Langston, the main organizer of the event. Following their victory, Dr. Langston bestowed one of his prized ships to the crew. After Captain Willem gained the deed to the ship, he ordered his crewmates to recruit more Atlanteans to fill in for the vacancies on the ship. After accepting the recruits that joined, they began their maiden voyage as a pirate crew.

History

Akula's Friends was established in the year 15 AH in the city of Atlas. The initial crewmates included 8 individuals who joined together as a team to enter a Grand Tournament competition held at the Atlas Colosseum. The winning team for such an event was to be awarded one of the personal ships of Dr. Adonis Langston, the event's main organizer and patron. Each of the founding crewmates had mutual desire and ambition to reach the mysterious Dreamwell which lied in the center of the Inner Sea. Prior to entering the arena itself, the team designated Willem to be their captain. The team tentatively named themselves "Akula's Friends" at Akula's suggestion. The name would later was kept as the permanent, official name of the crew.

During the Grand Tournament, Akula's Friends were pitted against six other teams. They successfully seized a ship during battle and secured the objective of capturing one of the three requisite flags to complete the game. After steering the ship towards two remaining rival ships, the crew was able to divide and conquer, and ultimately acquired two of the remaining flags. Upon achieving victory, they were personally congratulated by Dr. Langstone himself and were directed to visit the Row and Roll Upgrades to obtain their ship. After meeting Tubby, who was initially considered a potential shipwright, Tubby informed them that there were open vacancies within the crew. They also met Dr. Langstone again on the ship, which they christened the SS Friend "Ship". Dr. Langstone gave the deed and title of the ship over to Willem, marking the official beginning of the crew. On Captain Willem's orders, the crew split into three groups to search for eligible recruits. They managed to find willing recruits and subsequently made plans to take a number of missions offered within Atlas.
