Lara is an Atlantean female pirate who is a member of Akula's Friends. She is under the apprenticeship of Serena Lockwood and is training to become the sailsmaster of the crew's ship, the SS Friend Ship. Lara was recruited into the crew shortly after they received command of the ship. She travels alongside her pet octopus companion Moxy.

Lara was orphaned as a child and was adopted by Markello, a bugbear shopkeeper at Markello's Marvel Collection. Throughout her adolescence, Lara was mocked and ostracized for her apparent clumsiness and naïveté, as well as her alleged lack of talent. She had aspired to become part of the Atlantean Navy but was rejected, and soon became a serial reject at other institutions including the Center of Research and Academics. Her reputation and personality led her to being blacklisted and banned at a number of establishments, including the Grand Library of Atlas. During a routine attempt to gain entry at the library, she was scouted out by Serena Lockwood and Jué Zosteif as a potential candidate for the sailsmaster role of Akula's Friends. After gaining permission from Lara's father, Lara was placed under the care of Lockwood. Due to her inexperience, Lara was made an apprentice of Lockwood until she could prove she was seaworthy in combat and utility.

Description

Appearance

Lara is a young adult female humanoid with octopus-like features. She has turquoise-colored skin and shoulder-length tentacle-like appendages that are functionally analogous to human hair. Aside from her hair and skin color, she has an overall human-like appearance. She has a slim build and wears fine clothing typical of middle-class Atlantean merchants, which includes a long cape.

Personality

Lara is extremely optimistic, naïve, and energetic. Generally, she maintains a consistently positive and enthusiastic attitude towards any obstacle or trial she encounters. She is clumsy and airheaded, having failed to achieve any major milestone in life, including acceptance into a university or a guild. She is unskilled and possesses no real talent other. Lara makes up for her apparent lack of success with an ineffable sense of determination and an eagerness to learn. Although Lara is seldom discouraged or fazed by her long string of failures and unluckiness, she occasionally shows a deeper sense of shame and self-deprecation. She is quite sensitive about her relationship with her adopted father, Markello, and claims that he is holding her back and does not trust her.

Trivia

• Lara is the players' favorite non-player character and crewmate. She was created by M0nke_Mode as a character whose qualities appeared undesirable from a purely strategic and utilitarian standpoint, but was made up for her bubbly, optimistic personality.
