In the Kingdom of Sierra's 2020 federal election, 276 Members of Parliament were elected to the House of Commons. 26 of the seats were elected from an at-large multi-member district proportional party list while the remaining 250 were elected from single-member constituency.
The K.S. Parliament comprises the House of Commons, the Senate, and the Monarch. The 66th Parliament first met on May 4, 2020. After members were sworn in and a speaker was elected, the State Opening of Parliament was held on May 6, 2020.
House of Commons composition
Since 1983, no party has attained a simple majority of seats in the House. All governments since 1983 have been formed by either a coalition government or a minority government. The Social Democrats gained a plurality of seats in the election and formed a coalition with the Democratic-Republicans and the Greens. The previous coalition between the Royalists and the Libertarians experienced significant losses, one of the worst in Sierran legislative history. The Christian Democrats made significant gains during the election as well.
