Nathaniel Cannon (June 9, 1836 – November 8, 1917) was an Astorian military officer, statesmen and pioneer who served as the first president of Astoria from 1867 to 1879. Appointed by the Constitutional Assembly as commander of the Revolutionary Army in 1866, Cannon led the forces of Astoria to victory in the Oregon Civil War and the Eugene War. He served on the Provisional Executive Committee and chaired the 1867 Constitutional Secession of the Assembly which promulgated the Constitution of Astoria. In Astoria he is referred to as the "Father of the Republic" and is entombed at the National Adoratory of the Republic.
The Levantine Commune was a country situated in the Middle East in the Levant region. Its territory was comprised of the former lands of the British Mandatory Palestine. As an independent confederation, the Levantine Commune consisted of 2 constituent 'communes' with relative autonomy from the federal government and the Jerusalem Special Administrative Zone, with Jerusalem being directly governed by the federal government as their seat of power. Despite this federal division of power, much of the Levantine Commune was centralised with a planned economy and the federal ability to veto laws passed by the communes. It was the first and last communist state in the Middle East with its capital and largest city being Jerusalem.

The 1870 Astorian presidential election was the first presidential election in Astorian history. During Cannon's interim presidency, former members of the Republican Party and Canadians from the former British Columbia coalesced into the Whig Party. Although united in their displeasure for Cannon, they had little in common regarding policy. The Whigs nominated George Andrews, a former Hudson Bay Company administrator, as Cannon's opponent. Cannon won the election on September 3, 1870, with 11,328 votes, approximately 64.84% of the popular vote, and 36 electoral votes.
On the 6th of October, 1973, Israeli nationalist politicians attempted a coup of the Levantine Commune government and of the Israeli Commune government. The coup fell apart after 3 days but the impact of the attempted coup was widespread and destabilising for the country. While the coup perpetrators had been arrested and imprisoned, many of the militias who had defected to join the coup were unaffected and thousands of coup participators were still in active service. Many within both communes began advocating for independence. The federal government attempted reform to quell the instability and called for snap elections in April 1974, but partisanship deadlocked the parliament and so the presidents of the Levantine Commune declared a state of emergency and dissolved legislatures and attempted to take full control of the country, leading to the Levantine National Schism where the Israeli and Palestinian Communes rose up and broke away from the rule of the federal government. The schism lasted for 3 months before it escalated to the 1975 Levant War which took place across the Middle East between the Levantine Commune government, Israel and Palestine. The war was inconclusive and the Levantine Commune failed to take back its lands but did occupy northern Jordan with Iraq. After the wars conclusion, the president Barnaby Har-Zahav declared the Levantine Commune's dissolution.

In contemporary Astoria, questions regarding the legitimacy of the election still lingers among those in academia but since the early 1980s interest in the matter among the general population has faded. Historians are divided on whether Cannon employed fraudulent means to win the 1870 election, with 58% of the members of the Astorian Association of Archivists and Antiquarians agreeing in 2021 that unethical means were utilized. Only 34% of those belonging to the Arts and Humanities Class, Section II of the Astorian Academy of Arts and Sciences agreed. According to a 2019 poll conducted by National Canvass, 9% of Astorians believed Cannon employed fraudulent means to win the election, 32% agreed that election violence took place during the early republic, and 86% of those polled agreed with the statement "If Nathaniel Cannon utilized fraudulent methods in 1870 to win the presidential election it happened for a just reason."

Numerous municipalities and townships have been named in Cannon's honor, and modern attempts to rename counties and medium-sized cities to commemorate him have occurred after his death. Canongrad, with a population of 267,093, serves as the provincial capital of Sakhalin in Ussuria and is the most notable namesake. Cannonsburg, with a population of 21,094, is the prominent namesake in Astoria. Across the country many streets honor him, with the most prominent being Cannon Boulevard in the nation's capitol.

Cannon is memorialized by various structures, complexes and buildings across the country, the most significant being the National Adoratory of the Republic, constructed between 1925–1930, and the Cannon Monument between 1965–74 in Asphodele. Cannon is listed and his likeness is depicted among the the pioneers of the Oregon Trail, honored at the Monument to the Pioneers. Fort Cannon, located on the border between Olympia and Tahoma, is the largest military base by manpower and equipment in Astoria.

Conworlding, also called worldbuilding, is the process of constructing an imaginary world, sometimes associated with a whole fictional universe. The resulting world may be called a constructed world or a conworld. The term "worldbuilding" was popularized at science fiction writers' workshops in the 1970s. Developing an imaginary setting with coherent qualities such as a history, geography, and ecology is a key task for many science fiction or fantasy writers. Worldbuilding often involves the creation of maps, a backstory, and people for the world. Constructed worlds can enrich the backstory and history of fictional works, and it is not uncommon for authors to revise their constructed worlds while completing its associated work. Constructed worlds can be created for personal amusement and mental exercise, or for specific creative endeavors such as novels, video games, or role-playing games. (read more)

Summary: The Sierran Cultural Revolution, also known as the Xinchou Revolution (Chinese: 辛丑革命; pinyin: Xīnchǒu gémìng), or the Revolution of 1901, was a period of social transculturation and political change spanning across three royal eras that coincided with the progressive reform movement and substantial economic growth that took place in Sierra between 1901 and 1955. The Revolution radically changed racial and social attitudes in Sierra, and led to the birth of contemporary Sierran culture (known colloquially romanticized as the New Culture), guided under the principles of Sierran humanism, and other concepts including Sierran Hanzi. The Revolution was marked with widespread legal reforms, shift in attitudes and customs, increased immigration, and violent conflict with reactionaries. By its end, it saw the abolition of the Sierran casta system and radically altered the landscape of Sierran politics and social views. The Revolution also coincided with the rise of increased militarization, increased involvement of the monarchy, and authoritarianism due to widespread fear of Bolshevism, trade unionism, nativism, and anarchism. By the mid-1920s, during a time known as the Approbatio, the government resorted to military use and speech laws to control and suppress the activities of the opposition and dissidents. Contemporary historians have claimed that this later period in King Louis I's reign coincided with elements of fascism within the Sierran government. Although labor conditions worked, unions suffered greatly during the Revolution, and were subject to intense scrutiny. The change transformed Sierra into a cosmopolitan society and shaped the modern Sierran nation-state and democracy. The late Revolution coincided with unprecedented economic growth and militarization, propelling it towards the global power status it has reached in the present-day.

Today, Sierran society regards the Revolution as the key instrument to its success and flourishing culture. The Revolution allowed Sierra to modernize and to transcend group differences, granting it the power to focus on domestic issues, and work towards national improvement. It is viewed as the raison d'être for Sierran culture and economic success. The mass enfranchisement and politicization of various groups encouraged participatory democracy and reforms in business allowed for fairer conditions for workers. In addition, the Revolution is viewed as the hallmark of modern Sierran culture and the precursor to similar social movements in other Anglo-American countries such as the American Civil Rights Movement in the United Commonwealth. Aspects of the Sierran Cultural Revolution have had a minor though noticeable effect on Sierra's neighbors, most notably in Astoria and Brazoria, which both have similarly heterogenous populations with large Asian communities. It also significant in Tondolese history, as the Revolution brought Sierra and Tondo closer culturally and politically during Sierra's imperial occupation of the Asian state. (more...)
