Venaissin City, officially the Venaissin City State, is the Sovereign Patriarchate of Avignon's independent city state, an enclave located on the outskirts of the city of Avignon, France. Known widely as The Venaissin, it is considered to be the equivalent of the Holy See's Vatican City located in Rome, Italy. Since the 1936 Second Western Schism, the Holy See and the Sovereign Patriarchate of Avignon have been in dispute as the legitimate papacy and both claim to be the worldwide head of the Catholic Church, having excommunicated each other.

The Sovereign Patriarchate's 1994 Code of Canon Law describes itself has having full sovereign jurisdiction over the territory of the Venaissin City State as well as responsibility for its diplomatic independence, and that this is a temporary stage due to the "occupation of the Roman See" before the legitimate pope can eventually return to Vatican City in Rome. It is both a temporary stage as well as the current universal jurisdiction over the worldwide Catholic Church in communion with Avignon until a "Roman restoration" can be achieved at some point in the future. Sometimes the term "Venaissin" is used interchangeably with the Sovereign Patriarchate of Avignon.

The territory of Venaissin City covers TBD hectares on a large hill on the northern side of Avignon, overlooking the city, and it includes the Palais des Papes, the Papal Palace that was the seat of the 14th century Avignon papacy. Since 1936 it has been the home of the pope and the highest ranking Catholic clergy of the Avignon Roman Catholic Church, of various national origins. The city's permanent population as of 2020 includes 1,039 individuals. The City State is governed as a theocratic elective absolute monarchy, with the Apostolic Administration for the Venaissin City State being its main governing structure, itself part of the Apostolic Chancellery, the central administration of the Avignon Roman Catholic Church. The name of the city state is derived from a historic papal territory in southern France located around Avignon that was part of the Papal States until the French Revolution, and had been the center of the 14th-century Avignon papacy.
